NewsSly And The Family Stone play first UK show in 20 yearsFunk legend Sly Stone made his first appearance on a British stage in over 20 years last night (July 21). With a new version of his band, The Family Stone, the star headlined the first night of a rain-hit Lovebox Festival in Victoria Park, east London. The frontman did not initially appear as the band - fronted by his sister Vet - performed hits such as set opener 'Dance To The Music' and 'Everyday People'. When Stone did appear, he sang lead vocals on 'If You Want Me To Stay' and 'Sing A Simple Song' before telling the crowd he "needed a piss". Stone did return though, leading the band through euphoric versions of 'I Wanna Take You Higher' and 'Stand!'. Other bands who performed on the day were Blondie and Super Furry Animals, who kicked off proceedings and then flew off to Dublin immediately to close the Lovebox bash there. Lovebox continues tday in London with performances from the likes of The Rapture, Hot Chip and headliners Groove Armada. Tabloid Hell: Britney shuns Justin In sad, sad new development Britney Spears has pulled out of the very thing that may have saved her very troubled career, or so the US tabs claim. She has allegedly withdrawn at the last minute from recording a duet with one-time paramour Justin Timberlake, which was to be produced by Timbaland. Clearly not a fan of would-be pop culture 'moments', Spears has made her record label very unhappy. Allegedly Timberlake wrote the duet specifically for Spears. Although they wouldn't be together in the studio, his voice would have been mixed with hers. A 'source' said: "Timbaland set aside a week out of his crazy scheduled to do this - and then, just before she was supposed to fly out Britney abruptly cancelled the session and refused to do the song. "It's crazy. She's looking for a comeback and this would have not only been a huge hit, but something she could have opened the MTV Video Music Awards with and really blown everyone away." |
